Our story at Benner Metals Corporation traces its roots back to 1870 when Joseph Bennerscheidt, a skilled tinner and ambitious entrepreneur, came to the United States from Europe at the age of 21. Born in Königswinter, Germany, he was trained in the trade of tinning from the young age of thirteen. After working in various parts of Germany, Belgium, and the United States, he finally settled in Anaheim, California, in 1870.
Driven by a steadfast commitment to quality and a vision to serve the growing needs of the community, Joseph established the first metal manufacturing business in Anaheim. Located in the heart of the town, this establishment quickly grew to be one of the largest and most successful of its kind. To accommodate the influx of customers, Joseph constructed a sizeable building on Center Street where he skillfully catered to large orders for roofing, tinning, and plumbing.
Joseph’s legacy did not stop there. He passed down his entrepreneurial spirit and craftsmanship through generations. In the mid-1990s, the original business was sold, but the Bennerscheidt family’s commitment to the industry remained unyielding.
In 1986, brothers Louis and Francis Benner, Joseph’s descendants, opened Benner Metals in Anaheim, keeping alive the family’s passion for the industry. Their dedication and hard work led to rapid growth and, in 1988, the business was incorporated as Benner Metals Corporation. In 1994, the corporation expanded and relocated to its current location on State College Boulevard in Fullerton, California.
Today, Francis Benner proudly carries forward this illustrious family legacy, preparing to pass the torch to his sons, Michael and Robert. Together, they are ready to lead Benner Metals into a promising future, standing on a foundation of nearly 150 years of family tradition.
